Tamale Time

It's tamale time. I've never made tamales, but I bought the stuff at Mi Rancho Mercado to give it a try. [click on post title for a gorgeous pic of one!] Thanks to Jim Winstead for posting those lovely Tamale Festival Photos at Flickr.

I think it must be like canning...a community thing. Problem is, I am doing it alone. Perhaps I should have a tamale making party?

It's all Daisy's fault (PBS) for showing me how to make Latin American food.

I'll keep you "posted." hehehe

update: a chowhound buddy hooked me up with this site http://www.tamarastamales.com

I have good recipe for tamales.. they are a LOT of work, divide it into days if your doing it by yourself.. make the filling one day, soak the corn husks and make the masa the next then make tamales. Have a tamale party.. I'll help ya.

Whenever you can do it. Saturdays are not good for me.. horses you know. Sundays are good or any evening, usually. Just let me know when you want to do this and I'll see what my schedule is like

I am thinking of doing this the last Sunday in October. Perhaps include it as a project for Freedom from Hunger..or something along those lines. We could donate the tamales perhaps..or take up a collection for the cause. Sounds like Eileen has made them before. I am going to check with my hispanic friend as well.

http://www.sacatomato.com has a great post about Freedom From Hunger dated 9/27/07.
